Shadow Shots: Here There Be Dragons

There be a LOT of dragons, actually - dragonflies bigger than the hummingbirds. Dozens of them. This one obligingly posed on the deck railing for a shadow portrait. Gotta love those gorgeous wings.

Macro Monday: Butterfly

This tiny fellow may be the first butterfly whose antennae and eyes are more interesting than the wings - though I never got a good look at the top side, as it was gone in a flash when it flew.

Shadow of a Shade

This turkey vulture is sunning himself today on the barn roof next door. They have a wingspan of five to six feet and make an impressive sight, standing with their wings out and turning slowly to let the sun clean their feathers.
