Round Robins: Blinded By the Light

The Robins find themselves fascinated by shiny things this time around.

With winter still asserting its cold, grey influence outdoors, I made do with an ugly lamp. I do like all the reflections, though.

Macro Monday: Viola.

Viola

I found three canning jars full of old buttons at a yard sale, and one of them included this curious disc marked Viola. It isn't a button. I think it might be from an antique pump organ, but I'm not sure. I bought the whole lot just for this one piece, because I loved the mystery of it.

Shadow Shots: Shady Characters

It's been awhile since I went shadow hunting, so I set off to see what I could find. The snowy woods were streaked with the long shadows of bare trees, and crisscrossed with animal tracks - including my own.

I was pleased to meet one of my fellow forest dwellers who was also out for a stroll in the warm, slanting light of a winter afternoon. We sized each other up for a minute or two and then meandered off on our separate ways.

Come and Play: The Yard Art Game

OK all you camera people, are you ready for some fun? Grab your mouse and bop on over to Along Life's Highway: The Yard Art Game.

As if tacky lawn ornaments weren't amusing enough all by themselves, blogger Cheri has invented a spotters game, complete with categories and a point system. It can be played in a moving car or online at the website, and I think it's the most creative blog idea I've run across in a long time.

You will not believe the sights you'll see posted there, from the charmingly whimsical to the spectacularly tasteless. (OK, so it's 99% spectacularly tasteless, but I kinda like some of it.) There is even a section on the sex lives of gnomes, which tells you right there you're up against some stiff competition.

The blogger, Cheri, found her way in here via the previous post, Better Than Pink Flamingos and has graciously agreed to accept George as my first entry.

Cheri is in the deep south, where I know for a fact that the lawn ornament hunting is truly excellent. However, I think Indiana can hold its own.

So how about your town? Got game? Bring it!

Gorilla in the Snow

Great lawn ornament, eh? I think of him as "George".

(Mostly I just needed to get Valentine's Day out of the top spot here.)

* P.S. I didn't expect George to be so popular, so I didn't include much info. So, for the F.O.G.s - Fans of George - he is about 5 feet tall, so if he stood up he'd be closer to 7 or 8. He lives in a formal, gated courtyard between two local businesses, and can just be glimpsed from the street as you drive by. I was startled the first time I noticed him, and resolved to come back someday and peek through the fence from the sidewalk. I finally made good on the plan this week.

If you like George, you'll love this: Along Life's Highway: The Yard Art Game. Check it out and join the fun!

I'm Just Sayin'

Science Guy

Found in our local library, this guy is pretty funny at first glance. But if it's supposed to interest kids in becoming scientists, it's an Epic Fail.

And no, I didn't raise a ruckus about it with the library staff. Maybe I should have?

P.S. I mean, perpetuating the negative stereotype of the scientist as a freaky geek is less than helpful. Why not make him a wizard or a life-saving hero?
