Beutter Park in Mishawaka Indiana now stands on the site of the recently demolished
Ball Band/Uniroyal factory. The former Superfund site is now a little gem of a place, home to summer concerts and gardens, with a terraced river race running through it.
The fence design bordering the race includes mirror-surfaced fish, lizards, and turtles, which makes for a school of reflected-light figures on the pavement on one side and lacy shadow-schools on the other. Here a Canada goose goes strolling among them, casting a shadow of his own.
I took these around 2 pm, in that harsh daylight they tell you never to use. It wasn't great for anything else, but it did create some nice, inky shadows. There's a mirrored sculpture there called
Shards that I'll be revisiting on a better day with the better camera.
