Ruby Tuesday: Pretty Pink Whatsits

Unknown Wildflower

These little blossoms are an eigth of an inch long and grow along a willowy stem about two feet tall. No clue what they are, but I love the way the pistils end in two tiny curls.

For more Ruby Tuesday finds check out Mary's place, The Work of the Poet.

They look almost like a tiny hummingbird. Very pretty!

Looks like Bleeding Hearts before they open

Char, they do share that delicate quality, don't they?

Daryl, they're similar but much tinier and are blooming at a different time of year. I think they might be related though.

Do they open up? It looks like what I know as 'bleeding hearts' flower before hey open up. The size you described is about right.

The little curls on these flowers remind me of the paper craft of quilling. Maybe these flowers were someones inspiration for that.

Thanks for the input, everyone! They don't open; this is the way they stay. They bloom in August, whereas bleeding hearts are spring flowers. The leaves are a rosette of oblong, solid leaves on the ground, not the feathery ones that bleeding hearts have. Bleeding heart blossoms are much, much bigger, too. They do remind me of bleeding hearts, but they're definitely not that.

Lynn, I used to do quilling, once upon a time. It's fun to think the craft might have had its origins in these quirky flowers.
