Shadow Shots: The Book of Marvels

The Book of Marvels

The Book of Marvels

It occurred to me one day to wonder what my camera sees when I'm not paying any attention to it.

I carry it around a lot, just in case something interesting happens along, and it gets set down in all sorts of places. As an experiment, I'm beginning to turn it on and press the button without moving it. It's showing me some surprising things.

Here it's sitting on a book that's lying in front of my bedside alarm clock. The front of the clock is curved, and it's given such a funhouse flair to my bedroom that I can't even recognize much of what's in the reflection.

Best of all, look at the book. The title is THE BOOK OF MARVELS. "THE BOOK" is right-side up. "OF MARVELS" is upside down. How cool is that?

(I suppose this isn't really about shadows, but the mood is shadowy, so. It is what it is.)

A camera can be a tool that substitutes for our eyes - it can see things we miss as the shutter closes faster than our eyes. I like the random captures!

Who would have suspected that a camera has a life of its own? Wonderful shot.

What a wonderful exercise that is, letting the camera be the eye. I think I'll try that sometime. Excellent pictures.

I love the shadowy mood of these shots! It's fun to simply shoot in experimental ways and be pleasantly surprised by the results!

How strange that part of the title is upside down. Fun experiment with the camera :)

What a clever idea ... mine would show me the inside of my bag or pocket .. and the BIG one would likely show me the ceiling, its lying on its preview screen on the printer

That is a good idea! And it gave you a great picture!
My camera only sees the inside of my purse unless I am using it...

This is a cool experiment. You're right about it being hard to recognize things, except you can see the large letters RCA, which are probably in the alarm clock like the numbers. I don't know if the point about the book title being half upside down was a test or not, but it is ALL upside down. The capital letters in BOOK look the same right side up or upside down and so do the letters HE in "THE", but if you look real close you'll see that The "T" in "THE" is upside down. Am I the first to pass the test?

Cool pic! Does your camera ever "see" things that can't be explained?

It amazes me how creative some people are. I wish I could think up this stuff....very cool indeed!

Walk2Write, "things that can't be explained"?? Hm. That's a very interesting and scary thought. I'm going to be thinking twice now about doing this. LOL

Thanks, everyone, for deciding to think of me as "creative" instead of just "nuts".
