Shadow of a Shade

Turkey Vulture and Shadow

This turkey vulture is sunning himself today on the barn roof next door. They have a wingspan of five to six feet and make an impressive sight, standing with their wings out and turning slowly to let the sun clean their feathers.

Beautiful shot. Nancy had about 8 turkey vultures sunning themselves on the telephone wire outside of her house a few years ago. They were quite a sight all stretching out their wings at once. They came back about two years in a row.

Wow! That is an impressive sight! 5 to 6 feet are mighty big wings. You'd want to have a sturdy roof! ;D

Hope you have an awesome week!

As Michelle says, they are an acquired taste. Their size, silence and grace in the sky are breathtaking, but ... well. They're vultures.
