Shadow Shot Sunday2: Losing Focus

Photography was a lot more fun before I knew stuff.

In the beginning, I just set my little Canon Powershot G9 on Program or a preset and snapped away at whatever caught my eye. The occasional lucky shot was enough to keep me happy.

These days, I try so much harder and accomplish so much less. I get frustrated and discouraged by focus that's never sharp enough, exposure that's never quite right, "The Shot" that happens a split second too soon or too late or too far away.

So I decided to put away the DSLR for a while, dust off the G9, and get back in touch with my dumb old snap-happy self.

I took the camera to work, shooting from the car at snow-covered roads, tail lights after dark, trees, whatever. No effort at all, just literally point-and-shoot. Predictably, the results were mostly garbage. But since I was just playing, the results didn't matter; anything good was a nice surprise.

I did like this one of the parking lot at the office, taken through my sleet-covered side window.

I experimented with it in Photoshop, cropping and straightening. In the first one, I tried adjusting the color. The second has an "artistic filter" applied, though I have forgotten which one.(Photoshop is still very much an unexplored territory for me.)

It's been a long time since I've actually enjoyed just taking pictures. I plan to do a lot more of it.

I love your shots for the day! I know what you mean about struggling with the camera and the results!! I'm still such a novice, but I do have fun, and for me, that's all that matters!! Hope your weekend is going well!

Photography can be fun - as long as we don't make it so complicated...to gather the scene that is before us so we can remember it is the lure o why we do it. I am not a professional, so a point and shoot works for me. You should be happy as now the simple pleasures of taking the shot as you see it is back. Nice nighttime rainy pictures!

I guess not taking my photo-art too seriously is why I still enjoy it. I realize that I'll make a living of it or win awards, but that's okay.
I love these shots! Other bloggers have shown me that trying all kinds of perspective and having fun with what one gets at the end. The key advantage of a digital camera is not having to print photos to publish and...cherish.

I am not photographer, and you are being too hard on yourself. All these shots are excellent work to me.

I know what you mean - I shoot with G9 even if we have two other cameras. With G9 I can take macros which is not possible with other cameras.
Great shots you got!
Happy Sunday!
