Shadow Shots: Sugaring Season

My husband's family makes maple syrup every year, and these are some of the shadowier shots from our visit two weeks ago.

They collect sap from about 300 taps and the boiler runs night and day. Family and friends gather in the sugar shack to visit, to enjoy the sweet scented steam, and to down the occasional "maple shot" - a blend of Crown Royal and thin, hot syrup fresh from the pan.

I like the idea of a maple shot as the sweet syrup tones down the heavy taste of the rye liquor...years ago, Patti and I went to the local Ansonia Nature Center where the demonstration of making syrup was made - and samples of the warm maple goodness over cold ice cream made a sweet and sublime treat as it melted. Nothing like fresh maple syrup - wish it weren't so expensive...Nice post!

Wow. That one of the two kids is classic. Looks like a Norman Rockwell! I love the light and shadow in it. You can almost tell what time of day it is.

Truly, those kids do have that classic Norman Rockwell look! And, how unique to lay claim to an annual tradition of sugaring! Not to mention a unique shadow shot...

Intriguing photos! The first one almost suggests that there is fire in the top window! And the photo of the young ones is priceless! What a cheeky grin!

Wonderful selection of shadows. We made our syrup when I was growing up, but it was nothing like this.
