Macro Monday: Viola.

Viola

I found three canning jars full of old buttons at a yard sale, and one of them included this curious disc marked Viola. It isn't a button. I think it might be from an antique pump organ, but I'm not sure. I bought the whole lot just for this one piece, because I loved the mystery of it.

And now you have this neat jar filled with goodies as a subject. Mysteries are fun. I like your shot. Nice work.

Interesting shot, I love photographing buttons.

That is pretty cool!
Have you taken it out to see what kind of material it's made of?
I'd almost hate to move it - it presents itself well nestled there in the surrounding buttons and muted colors.

Hello, all - I have taken it out, and found it is made of glazed ceramic.

As for what to do with all the buttons, I just use the jars themselves them as decorative objects. I do have a lot of buttons though, both old and new, and have debated for years about what to do with them all.

That's great! Yes, I think you're right, it must be from an organ or a similar instrument. It would be lovely incorporated into a piece of jewellery, wouldn't it?

Great find! I love old buttons. I still have a can full of them from my grandmother's house. I remember playing with them when I was little and still can't bring myself to get rid of them. :)

Great photo! There's just something about a jar of old buttons that fascinate me. I don't know why.

Two things:

1. I love buttons. I have a button box and love to look through them and add to my collections

2. What in the heck would a "viola" button do? Being ignorant of musical instruments especially organs.

Jay - jewelry! You're right, it would make a cool pendant of some kind. Hmm.....

Life - I think it would change the tone of the organ's sound to make it more like a viola. Organs do have preset sounds of various kinds.

It's fascinating to see how many other people love buttons! I'll have to do some more work with them.

Great story behind the image. Jars of old buttons make me giddy. I've got some of my great-grandmother's buttons.

Thanks for the visit to my site and lovely comment. Old buttons are fascinating to me, and I don't even sew. I think my sister who does sew will get our mom's wonderful collection someday, and I'll probably be jealous.

Wonderful find! And a great photo also. My sister makes jewelry using old buttons - very creative items. Have fun figuring out what to do with these gems!

I misread that as, "voila." When I realized my error, I was quite disappointed. I thought the unexpected presentation of the word, "voila," was a beautiful example of serendipity. But, no.
