Round Robins: First Signs of Spring

FirstCrocus

My beloved spake, and said unto me,

Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;
The flowers appear on the earth;
the time of the singing of birds is come,
and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;
The fig tree putteth forth her green figs,
and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell.
Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

~ The Song of Solomon, 2:10-13

Crocuses are usually the first sign of spring around here, blooming sometimes in early January. In this year of endless snow, they're only now appearing.

The first sign was actually the squirrels gathering leaves for their nests. Even the daffodils poked their noses out before the crocuses, which has got to be a first.

No matter. It seems winter is finally losing its grip, and the Round Robins are finding reasons to rejoice. I don't know about you, but I can't wait to see all the spring things they've gathered: Join the celebration here!

Hi Vicki :)

So beautiful. I love the lighting on your photo. Was that afternoon light by chance? It is so soft and warm. I could sit and look at this photo all night. :) Lovely as usual sweetie!

Always, Carly

Carly - yes, the very end of the day. In fact, these were closing up as I was photographing them.

Jen - thanks! Glad you liked it.

Lizard Lady - I'm so glad you stopped by too. I hope things are better for you soon.

The crocus seem to sump off the picture. They are beautiful! We've had so much rain and snow that our crocus are jsut starting to come up. No blooms as of yet. I'm checking everyday.

That's an outstanding shot, with excellent contrast between the flowers and the ground, offset with pale green stalks and the interplay of light and shadow. Well done!

Beautiful crocuses -- in fact, everything about the shot, as has been very well-stated. I've tried to grow them at least once in the past but have had no luck. Definitely a great sign of Spring's arrival!

My grandma always said that the first sign of spring is a crocus. I rarely see any and none as beautiful as your photo. Thanks for bringing true spring to my house.
