Photo Hunt: Beautiful

Beautiful

I don't know exactly what this antique brooch is or where it came from. I found it in my mother's jewelry box after she passed away, and loved the old, mysterious look of it.

What's the Story?

Sandcastle Momma left a provocative little comment on this post:

"That is beautiful! And because you don't know the history you can make up something exotic and exciting about it whenever you wear it."

I love this idea. So much, in fact, that I'm inviting all of YOU to make up a story for this piece, too. Post it on your blog, and leave a link here in the comments. The photo is on Flickr. Feel free to use it if you want.

*I'll post your stories in a new entry, with links back to your blogs.*

I do hope you'll come in and play! -- Vicki

I wondered if someone else would go for a sentimental post as I did. That is really special. My Mom had a fire and lost many of her things from her Mom and also her own stuff. So hang onto that...

Oh WOW! That's a stunner! Great photo for today, that's a feast for the eyes. I love old jewelry.

I did Photo Hunt today, too. It was so hard to choose just one thing, so I did a few. Please visit and leave your link! http://newyorktraveler.net/photo-hunters-beautiful/

Momma, that's a great idea! I'll have to start dreaming up a great story behind this thing. I didn't capture it very well, but the glass (I think?) "stones" have a strange, opal-like depth to them. I smell magic... LOL

Woods, I am so sorry you lost your Mom's keepsakes. That must have been very hard for you, seeing as you're a sentimental lady, like me. I do love your post on your wedding roses.

Mrs Mecomber, I agree. Old jewelry has such a unique aura and look to it. I enjoyed your posts, too!

"Never did this brooch leave my mother's possession, let alone her trinkets box. She pawned or sold everything she had- including herself- when Father got sick in the summer of '50. But never this brooch. No picture of her exists wearing this rather ornate piece of jewelry. I never saw her wear it, not even to my own wedding, not even to match the unapologetic display of wealth of my in laws.

Wait, I saw her wear it, once, when I was in third grade. I was walking home from school (since I got kicked out of the bus) when I saw her across the street, rushing through the madding crowd, brooch on her left breast, shimmering in the afternoon sun. The shimmering was abruptly dulled by the tight, excited hug of a man I've never seen before..."

thanks for jumpstarting my imagination hehe

That is a beautiful antique brooch. Absolutely lovely. You should take it to a jeweller and see if they can tell you a little more about when it was made and so on.

What a fun idea, Vicki! I'll give that some thought. What a fabulous brooch! Looks deco period (late 20's or 30's) to me. Your photo is truly beautiful!.

That is gorgeous. What a beautiful piece of jewelry. And I will most certainly play. I'll have to think about it for a bit, but I'm sure I can come up with a history for it. Certain story elements are already percolating about in my head.

Back when she was a traveling gypsy, telling fortunes, she always thought the blue crystal she gazed into would, when she retired, make a lovely centerpiece on a brooch...and she was right!

Such a beautiful brooch! And a beautiful idea, to make stories around it. I'm sure you'll have a load of different tales.

Very beautiful indeed!

Teena, I am beginning to imagine the stories it could tell, yes! And it looks like Ian, Janet, and Sallyacious are, too.

Rho, I think it would look nice on navy too. Or black, maybe.

Annie, you're the first to mention the lace. I think that's beautiful, too.

Jennyr and Gatina, thanks for the kind words!

ian! Great story! You've revealed so much, and drawn such a clear portrait of the woman -- in just two paragraphs. You have a real talent.

Tricia, you're right. I probably should. I don't think it's particularly valuable, but I would like to know what it is.

RJ, thanks! I do hope you'll tell us your story.

Sallyacious, I can't wait to see what you'll come up with!

June, Dragonstar and People, thanks so much. I'm glad you liked it!

Janet, I love your story! I too thought it looked like a crystal ball of sorts, something for scrying. Great minds think alike?

Thanks so much for taking the time to play along.
