There is a deer skeleton, or most of one, in the south woods. A scattering of ribs, vertebrae, long bones and this wonderful skull.
The bones have obviously been there for some time, developing an amazing texture and delicacy. I've gone in a few times to photograph them in place, but the fallen leaves have now covered most of it up.
So, yes - I picked up the skull and brought it home.
Wouldn't you?
These were taken in the last few minutes of light, which seemed appropriate. And I couldn't resist sharing my own loooong silhouette.

If I had a porch I'd have brought it home also, but I don't know about hanging it inside.
Me neither, Rubye! It will NEVER come inside. Once I'm done playing with it, it will hang in the potting shed or be turned to the woods. Not sure which, yet. I handle it with latex gloves, too. Thanks for stopping by!
It is such fun to capture yourself elongated. This is a fine skull producing quite a nice shadow. I have a friend who has one sitting on his mantle. genie
Genie, fun indeed. Me: tall and thin. Who'd believe it.
Such an intriguing skull with marvellous textures and patterns! I think that i would probably return it to the woods once my photo shoot was complete!
Thanks, Gemma. The texture fascinates me, especially that meandering seam between the sections. (Enlarge to really see it.)
I too like the idea of returning it to the earth. But I'm selfish ... I also like having it to play with whenever the mood strikes.
An interesting skull and a good choice as we near Halloween!! I love your LONG leg shot! I have one of those of me, too!! Hope you're enjoying a great weekend!
The photo artist is tall and stylish - the shadow is great! The skull is a bit ghoulish, yet fascinating in its bleached white tone with great shadows that fall upon the weathered wood. Perfect for the Halloween...

There is even beauty in death...
I would not want that skull or bones in my house and am not sure if I would pick it up to bring home. In the shed or on the porch I could deal with, but not in the house.
Great Shots!
Happy Sunday!
Actually, I would have left the skull right where it was! :)
Shadowy Webs
Sylvia, Thanks! I had never seen my shadow quite so long. Now I'm thinking of other things to "stretch" out there.
Ralph, that's exactly it - ghoulish and fascinating. I wonder what it is in us that is drawn to such things.
Michelle, I knew you'd be one of those who could see it too.
Lighthousegal and Magic - LOL! You are quite possibly saner than I.
;-)
I would keep this kind of beauty too!
You get many interesting macros of it.
Have a good week ahead!
Very nice shadows from the skeleton.
Wow, that is one spooky thing to put inside the house, at porch is okay.
Playful Shadows
Have a great week ahead!
perfect timing
