Round Robin Photo Challenge: Shoes

All the best buddies have fur.

What could be cozier on a sleep-in morning than a pile of reading, a warm cat, and a fleecy pair of slippers? These are my favorites. They're nice enough to shuffle out in public to pick up the paper off the driveway, and comfy enough to wear all day. Gatsby here keeps an eye on them, because he knows that if I put them on I'm probably heading downstairs. And there's food down there.

Now, don't get me wrong. Fancy shoes fascinate me with their stiletto heels, jeweled straps, and impossibly pointy toes. I love to look at them through shop windows, in much the same way I admire elaborate pastries and art glass. The colors entice, the construction and creativity amaze. But, like sweets and fragile doodads, they're just not for me.

My mother had a wonderful pair of shoes, vintage 1940's sandals. The thick soles were made of many strips of smooth, polished wood held together with long, slim hinges, so that the entire sole flexed with the foot as you walked. They were so cunningly made that the moving parts never pinched the skin, and they made a sound like tree branches creaking in a breeze. I loved those things. They sat in Mom's closet my whole childhood, and I had hoped to recover them when we closed up the old house. Alas, they vanished somewhere along the way. I've never seen anything like them since.

The Round Robins went shopping for shoe shots this week, and they have some fabulous finds. Please do step in and have a look around!

Hi Vicki :)

I agree! That is the perfect way to start the day! Love the slippers by the way, my feet are freezing right now, I must go grab my Tweety slippers. :)

Always, Carly

Yes, when I grow up, I would love to have a pair of fleecys. They look tempting at the shoe department. Maybe someday I'll get a pair and have warm feet to go out and get wood. Beautiful picture with the other furry loved one.

Great post. I can visualize your Mom's sandals. Too bad they disappeared. Perhaps to a good cause.

I love the composition on this shot, the light coming in the window to highlight the fleece of the slippers, the cat half in shadow, keeping an eye on them as you say. Your words compliment the shot really well, and I appreciate that you can admire shoes for their design without feeling the need to buy them. I'm much the same on this. Thanks for the fun topic!

That cat looks like it wants to curl up in those slippers and sleep, lol. =) I must say though, I don't blame it.

Great job!

The cat is cute, lol !! I have to admit that I don't care at all about shoes. You could live besides me in slippers for 20 years and I wouldn't even notice ! and my mother had 60 pairs of shoes when she died !! maybe that's why !

I love the poetic tone of your writing! And the great idea you came up with! Your kitty is adorable -- how cute of him to anticipate your moves according to the wearing of your slippers. Cats are smart like that. ;-) My cats are always watching me and evaluating what I do in terms of how it will affect them. That's one thing I enjoy about the furry felines.

Thanks for stopping by mine :)

It must be genetic. My cat used to sit beside my slippers and wait until I put them on to go downstairs for food. Hmmmm. He's now crossed the rainbow bridge, but I think about him when I come across little snippets like yours. Lovely.

Oh yeah, your shoes look incredibly comfy! That shot makes me want to sit near a window in the early morning and read a book while sipping coffee. :)
