Sepia Scenes: Sisters

Happy New Year!
I hope you're all having a wonderful time with friends and family.

This is a photo I've used before, in color. It struck me as something that might be even better in sepia, and I think it actually is.

This is the one-click AOL editor again, as I've been way short on time lately.

Here's the color version from an older post.

The color photo is beautiful but I think you're right, the sepia works even better. The monochrome really draws your eye right to the two girls. Great stuff.

Thank your for your kind words on my blog this evening too.

Nice choice of subject for sepia. It gives the photo a timeless quality. ;-)

All the best in 2009!

A Death In The Blogger World

A blogger friend lost her husband suddenly last Sunday night. I thought it would be nice to go and leave a message for her on her blog...You may know her as 'mommanator' at grannies ramblings

Happy New Year! I got a new camera - a Canon Powershot - for Christmas - and have lots to learn about it. I love looking at your photos as I try to learn how to be a better photographer.

Sending you warm wishes for a year filled with happiness, good health and lots of love. Celebrate!

What a perfect choice for sepia! I think I prefer the sepia version over the original. Wouldn't it make a lovely print?

Happy New Year!

I like that you posted both versions. I'm glad I don't have to decide between them, they're both great.

I'm not always biased toward monochrome, but I find that in a great many cases it does a better job of conveying feeling unless the colors are central to the emotion of the shot.

In this case, my knee-jerk reaction was to wonder what it would look like in black and white, but after a few seconds consideration I realized that the warmth of sepia toning was a good fit for the mood of the photo.

You have to start out with a good image though, and you nailed it with this one.

I, too, like it better in sepia. It makes it timeless.
