Sepia Scenes: Drawbridge

I always look forward to seeing the towers of the raiload drawbridge visible from Route 90 in Cleveland. To me, it looks like something from a fantasy world, especially with the snow swirling by. I tried straightening it in Elements, but decided it looked better angled.

Sepia Scenes: (18)40 Winks

Stage Coach Driver2

This was taken at the Adirondack Museum last summer. At first glance, I thought the old stage coach driver was a real guy.

I used the one-click editor, but fiddled with the saturation and light/dark a bit in the Cannon ZoomBrowser. I did open it in Elements to see if I could soften the background or take out those lines in it (whatever the heck they were), but gave up before I figured out how. I need a class or something.

Anyhow, the rest of the entries are over at Mary's place, Sepia Scenes.

Sepia Scenes: Sisters

Happy New Year!
I hope you're all having a wonderful time with friends and family.

This is a photo I've used before, in color. It struck me as something that might be even better in sepia, and I think it actually is.

This is the one-click AOL editor again, as I've been way short on time lately.

Here's the color version from an older post.

Sepia Scenes: Fallen Stars

Fallen Star 2

Fallen Star

I thought this dry leaf on my garage floor looked like the ruins of a little star, fallen and shattered. They are both taken with the Sepia setting on a Canon G9. In the top one, I softened the shot by lowering the saturation and lightening it a little. In the second, I went for a NASA lander-camera look, with its harsh shadows, enhanced saturation, and high contrast. Which do you like better?

Sepia Scenes: Garden Gate

This is an older shot from Fernwood Gardens in Michigan, sepia-fied with the good old AOL photo editor. (If they take that away, I'm cooked.)

This is really a double gate, like a little house; there is an inner and an outer gate/wall, with benches inside between the two. Once the hubby's woodshop is up and running, I'm putting in an order for one like it.

Sepia Scenes: Fading in the Sun

Fading in the Sun

The view from inside this old barn isn't nearly as interesting as the window that frames it. I loved the textures of the peeling paint, and the shadows cast on the wide sill.

Sepia Scenes: Soaring Spires

There are some great churches in this area, and this is one of my favorites. Its Gothic spires dominate the neighborhood. I half expect to see Batman up there one day, brooding over the streets below.

Sepia Scenes: Out to Pasture

Out to Pasture

Anyone know what this is? It looks like something that was dragged behind a tractor. Whatever it did, it hasn't done it in quite some time. We found it here, reclining against a giant old maple, dreaming of days gone by.

I took this one with the Sepia setting on my camera. I think I like the effect better when I convert a photo from color.

Sepia Scenes: Haunted

Boooo!

This one's a happy accident. The mask is in my brother's garden, and I must have snapped this shot as I moved the camera. I think it turned out better than the in-focus ones.

I'm really short on time these days, so it's doubling as my Halloween entry for Monday Photo Shoot too.

Sepia Scenes: Steam Engine 110

Theteach has a new photo meme, Sepia Scenes, that I just had to try out. The restored engine of a nearby scenic railroad ride seemed like a perfect subject. I couldn't figure out how to sepia-fy it in Photoshop, but the AOL photo editor has a one-click sepia feature that did the trick.

The meme is brand new -- this is the first week -- and happens on Thursdays. I don't know yet whether I like sepia all that much, but it's always fun to try something new. Come by and check it out, OK? Click here: Sepia Scenes
