Shadow Shots: Set a Spell

Set a Spell

The former owners left us one green chair on the front porch. I don't know why. But I've enjoyed sitting there when the temperatures allow.

Soon I'll add more comfy accommodations and flowers, but for now I rather enjoy the stark simplicity of the one chair, the chilly air, and the wide, straight lines.

Round Robins: The Old Place

Click photo to enlarge.

This grand old gal was once the belle of the ball. Now she's a bit rundown in the heels, neglected and fading. Still, she fires the imagination, doesn't she?

Monday Photo Shoot: Black and White

Winter Trail Head

Carly at the blog Ellipsis hosts the Monday Photo Shoot, and her challenge this time is black and white photography. I haven't done too much with that yet, but this is one of my favorites so far.

It sums up this year's winter for me. Black and white were the only colors in the landscape that day, so it seemed natural just to shoot it that way. It was appropriate for the season, too; black for the darkness and killing cold, white for the clarity and stillness that snow brings.

Round Robins: The Color Purple

I never saw a purple cat.
I never hope to see one.
But I can't find a purple thing
And so I've had to make one.

Find more purple this week at the Round Robins Photo Shoot.

P.S. I used the Color Swap feature on my camera for the first time for this one! Ya learn something new every day.
;-)

But Wait, There's More...

I forgot about this one. Ever seen a purple pepper? They really were this color.

Ruby Tuesday: Big Red

We pass this old red combine every day on the way home, parked in what is probably its final resting place. Wouldn't you love to see this old girl in action, with all those gears and bands and do-hickies doing whatever they do?

Check out more Ruby Tuesday entries at MaryT's place, Work of the Poet.

Barn Shadows

Rake with Shadow

There's a wonderful old hay barn snuggled up against the edge of our property. Its skin is fairly new, but its bones are a century-old Amish beam structure that was disassembled, moved, and rebuilt on the site. What light there is inside has an odd quality to it in there, almost as if it were pressurized by the effort of squeezing through the cracks and parting the shadows.

Barn Shadows

I like the top one, but the details on the brightest tines blew out, which is discouraging. The bottom one is pretty noisy, and I should have cropped out the window and/or moved the stuff on the floor, but I like the lighting effect. I'll have to try that one again sometime.

By the way, I'm having problems with both Blogger's Save button and my computer, so please bear with my absences here and in your blogs, and in replying to your comments. I'll be around as soon as I can. Meanwhile...
