Style and Grace

Hudson Terraplane

Hudson 8 Terraplane Ornament

I am not a car person. Nevertheless, I have fallen in love with vintage Hudsons. I like them even better than the Studebakers that were once made here. The craftsmanship in these gorgeous old behemoths  is jaw-dropping.

These were taken last week at Hostetler's Hudson Auto Museum in Shipshewana, Indiana. It's a Hudson Terraplane 8 from the thirties; sadly, I did not make note of the exact model and year.

There was so much to see there, but all of it was nearly impossible to photograph. The light was dim; the backgrounds were cluttered with other cars, posters, and displays; every car had a huge informational placard parked in front of the grille; people were always getting in the shot. Plus, since I didn't know we were going to stop there I had only my G9 with me, which doesn't do well in low light and had a low battery.

Still, I have been able to salvage some shots with picmonkey. These are the best of the lot.

P.S. April 28, Sunday: I've just found the "Showroom" tab on the museum website. For nice shots of some of the stars of their show, click here: Showroom. These cars seem to have struck a chord, and I thought y'all might enjoy seeing these. (Scroll over the thumbnails to enlarge each one.) Thanks for all your comments!

Weekend Reflections: Shards

This sculpture, Shards, by Jan R. Martin stands in Beutter Park, Mishawaka, IN.

It is situated in a water race, and the reflections in the mirror surfaces are constantly changing with the seasons and time of day. Against a clear bright sky, parts of it appear to melt into the blue, to become transparent as crystal. The lower blocks reflect the swirling water, and the water in turn reflects the sculpture.

It's kind of a head trip if you look at it too long.
