Round Robins: Wooden

BurlBowl

Our challenge this time around on Round Robins is Wooden, a topic suggested by Kiva of the blog Eclectic Granny. I chose to photograph this bowl my husband made from the base of a backyard Euonymus bush that got completely out of control.

Actually, the Euonymous bowl was my second choice. I had a great little theme going for this, wooden red cherries in a cherry wood bowl made by my husband from a tree that once graced our front lawn. Or so I thought. Hubby Dearest came home as I was wrapping things up Friday and proceeded to burst my bubble:

He: "Uh, honey ... that's not cherry." Me: "Whatta ya mean? Didn't you make this out of that tree we cut down out front? The one the carpenter ants drilled full of holes?" He: "Nope. It's from a chunk o' wood a friend gave me. I think it's maple."

Dang. Well, no matter. It's a cool bowl, and the cherries are kinda cute, and I spent hours fussing with the thing. So you're getting these, too:

As always, there are lots and lots more photos to see over at the Round Robin home page. Be sure to check them out, OK?

That's interesting, making your own bowl from your tree. but I'm eyeing that table? love that old grainy look of the wood.

I love the bowl, no matter what it's made of. The cherries are cool, too. Wonderful to be married to an artist.

The bowl is beautiful! How fortunate to have a hubby that can create something so beautiful. Let me know if he's taking orders - I love wooden bowls! And those cherries are really cute too.

The bowl is cool - no doubts about it. However I must admit the table just totally facinates me with all the texture. All are nicely done and perfect for the challenge.

Excellent shots; I can't choose a favorite. The cherries in a bowl work fine without a unifying theme - and I'm glad I'm not the only one whose husband corrects me on factual details in my blog posts!

What a cool idea of wood, on wood, on wood. Very creative. And I am with the others, who care what kind of wood the bowl is made of. It is just amazing that your husband can make something out of the trees in your yard. Wish I could do that.

So your hubby is a woodworker too ;0) He must have a great eye for the possibilities of a wood block to make such beautiful pieces. I'm glad you included the cherries anyway even though your hubby "sawed" through that one... (my bad...)
